CBA Training

The CBA workshop programme, launched in April 2008, continues with workshops on 'planning and the historic environment' in September 2008 and March 2009 (details below).

In September 2008 the CBA and the Association for Industrial Archaeology (AIA) is launching a programme of national and regional day schools focusing on a 'Better future for industrial sites and buildings'.

CBA Workshop Programme 2008–2010

Planning and the historic environment

6 September 2008 (York): Planning and the historic environment
March 2009: Planning and the historic environment

For all those with an interest in the historic environment, the focus of the second CBA workshop will be on getting to grips with the planning system. These two events will provide an introduction to the way local and regional planning works and discuss how groups and individuals can have a more effective voice in local planning issues. They will include an introduction to local development frameworks and the proposals in the new Heritage Protection Bill.

Regional Groups: best practice

Groups' Update 2008 (PDF 63KB), held on 19 April (York) and on 7 June 2008 (London):

Twenty-eight volunteers attended these two workshops to discuss issues relating to governance, participation and communication. The CBA secretariat and three Regional Groups provided speakers and discussion topics included finance and funding, charity and legal issues, organising conferences, and producing newsletters. Volunteers who took part said they enjoyed the friendly informal atmosphere of the workshop, appreciating the opportunities to discuss questions as they arose and the chance to meet others. The workshop presentations may be downloaded:
